— It’s good to hear singer/guitarist/composer Celso Fonseca (Rio de Janeiro, 1956) again. With these Corona days of global uncertainty we can all use some relaxing music. The bossa nova of the soft-voices Celso Fonseca offers pleasant quietness as well as a familiar sound. On Turning Point he stays true to his steady quality. Ten of the eleven songs are by his own pen, with “Desliga a Luz” in co-authorship with Erika Ender (Panama City, 1974). She’s also guest vocalist in that song. The only non-original song is “Sparks” by Chris Martin (from the band Coldplay).
As we can expect from Celso, the music is performed with impeccable craftsmanship. With Junior Castanheira and Dudu Trentin on various keyboards and Suellen Targine as backing vocalist. Ricardo Mota joins in on the Fender Rhodes on a few tracks. The CD is pleasing for note one to the very last note. It’s not breaking boundaries, but with the music that makes Celso Fonseca the extraordinary musician you can rely on.
